In 1882 the Church of the Good Shepherd was built, becoming the parish church
in 1887, and the Reverend Dr. William SCHOULER of Elkton became Rector. The
church was dedicated March 29, 1883, by Bishop LAY. From 1880 to 1964 only a
yearly service held regularly at St. Augustine.
Out of North Sassafras Parish
were created North Elk (1706), Augustine (1744), Trinity (1832), and Susquehanna
(1913).
